20 Minute Teriyaki Beef

A quick and easy version of beef teriyaki using ground beef that’s ready in less than 20 minutes!

Teriyaki style dishes are among my favourites and this is a super simple ground beef version that comes together in no time! This recipe is as simple as cooking the beef and an onion before adding garlic and ginger along with the teriyaki sauce. (Teriyaki sauce is a combination of soy sauce, sake, mirin and sugar.). All said and done, this tasty teriyaki beef comes together in less than 20 minutes, about the time that it takes to steam some rice to serve it over! I usually add veggies to the beef teriyaki or cook the separately to make a complete meal in no time!

Prep Time: 5 minutes Cook Time: 15 minutes Total Time: 20 minutes Servings: 4

A quick and easy version of beef teriyaki using ground beef that’s ready in less than 20 minutes!

ingredients
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced/grated
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced/grated
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce (gluten-free for gluten-free)
  • 2 tablespoon sake (optional)
  • 2 tablespoon mirin
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
directions
  1. Cook the ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking the beef apart as it cooks, about 10 minutes, before draining off any excess grease.
  2. Add the garlic and ginger and cook until fragrant, about a minute.
  3. Add the mixture of the soy sauce, sake, mirin, and sugar, mix and cook until it reduces a bit, about 2 minutes.
  4. Turn off the heat, mix in the sesame oil, sesame seeds and green onions and enjoy!
Option: Add diced bell pepper.
Option: Add diced/grated carrot.
Option: Add diced/grated zucchini.
Option: Add diced/grated sweet potato.
Option: Add diced/grated apple/pear.
Option: Add diced pineapple and pineapple juice!
Option: Replace sugar with honey, maple syrup, brown sugar, etc.
Option: Add rice vinegar.
Option: Add 1 tablespoon cornstarch to thicken sauce.

    great, nice to have, love teriyaki flavor but usually chicken, so I appreciate having a beef recipe, especially one that only takes 20 mins, thank you!
