Buffalo Coleslaw

[heart_this] · Aug 31, 2023 · 6 Comments

Buffalo Coleslaw

Cole slaw with the flavours of buffalo chicken!

Coleslaw is a summer classic and it’s so easy to change it up like in this buffalo coleslaw! This slaw includes all of the flavours of buffalo chicken wings, from the hot sauce to the creamy blue cheese dip, and the carrot and celery sticks that are often served with the wings. I like to keep this as a simple side but you can kick it up by adding shredded chicken and/or crumbled bacon! This buffale style slaw makes for a great side or as a condiment in sandwiches!

Prep Time: 15 minutes Total Time: 15 minutes Servings: 16(8 1/2 cup servings)

Cole slaw with the flavours of buffalo chicken!

ingredients
  • 8 cups cabbage, shredded of finely chopped
  • 1 cup carrot, shredded of finely chopped
  • 1 cup celery, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup green onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup blue cheese, crumbled
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 4 tablespoons hot sauce
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey (or sugar) (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
directions
  1. Mix the cabbage, carrot, celery, onion, and blue cheese.
  2. Mix the mayo, vinegar, honey, salt, and pepper.
  3. Mix the coleslaw salad and dressing and either enjoy immediately or, better yet, let it sit in the fridge for an hour to overnight to let the flavours mingle!
Note: The spicy heat in this recipe comes from the hot sauce; use more for more heat or less for less heat.
Option: Replace the green onion with 1/4 cup red onion, diced.
Option: Replace ¼ cup of mayonnaise with warmed cream cheese, or sour cream, or yogurt.
Option: Add crumbled bacon.
Option: Add 1 cup cooked and shredded (or diced) chicken!

Your directions don’t match your ingredients (red onion, sugar, bacon)

this is a very good idea! coleslaw to me is an afterthought or even just a garnish when served to me, but buffalo style flavor really helps offset what is otherwise too bland for me, so thank you!

I followed the recipe almost exactly: I did use your option of replacing some of the mayo with sour cream and adding sugar. I used a Smoky Blue Cheese, so I added a few drops of Liquid Smoke to the Dressing. Results were spectacular – cool, spicy, smoky, crisp. I served it with Buffalo Chicken Wings, and I will definitely try it again by adding cooked shredded chicken to make it a meal-in-one. Easily modifiable to suit anybody’s taste!
