A flavour packed one-pan meal with beef and pillowy potato dumplings in a creamy tomato sauce.

ingredients
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground fennel seeds (optional)
  • 1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups beef broth (link) (or water)
  • 1 pound gnocchi (link) (gluten-free for gluten-free)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (link) (or oregano)
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce (gluten-free for gluten-free)
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce (gluten-free for gluten-free)
  • 1/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 1/2 cup heavy/whipping cream (or sour cream, or 4 ounces cream cheese)
  • 1/4 cup parmigiano reggiano (parmesan cheese), grated
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (or basil), chopped (optional)
directions
  1. Cook the beef and onion in a large pan over medium-high heat, breaking the beef apart as it cooks, until the beef is cooked through and the onion is tender, about 7-10 minutes.
  2. Add the garlic, red pepper flakes, and fennel and cook until fragrant, about a minute.
  3. Add the tomatoes, broth, gnocchi, Italian seasoning, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and sun-dried tomatoes, bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer until the gnocchi is tender, about 8-10 minutes, mixing every few minutes.
  4. Add the cream and cheese, let the cheese melt into the sauce.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste, mix in the parsley and enjoy!
Option: Replace the ground beef with Italian sausage, casings removed.
Option: Add 2 tablespoons tomato paste, along with the garlic.
Option: Add 1/2 cup roasted red peppers, diced, along with the sun-dried tomatoes.
Option: Add 4 ounces fresh baby spinach at the end and let it wilt in the sauce!

Hi! Option # 1 is incomplete. Did you mean add another cup of broth and you don’t have to brown the ground beef and onions?
