This is a quick and easy, one-pan meal, with a beef and tomato sauce and gnocchi! Everything starts out with ground beef, which is cooked with an onion, before adding some seasonings: garlic, red pepper flakes, and fennel. Tomatoes and broth are added along with the gnocchi which is cooked in the sauce in the same pan. The flavour is built up with Italian seasoning, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, sun-dried tomatoes and parmesan cheese along with some cream! This meal is perfect for busy nights and it’s sure to impress both family and guests!
Creamy Beef Gnocchi
A flavour packed one-pan meal with beef and pillowy potato dumplings in a creamy tomato sauce.
ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground fennel seeds (optional)
- 1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 2 cups beef broth (link) (or water)
- 1 pound gnocchi (link) (gluten-free for gluten-free)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (link) (or oregano)
- 2 teaspoons soy sauce (gluten-free for gluten-free)
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce (gluten-free for gluten-free)
- 1/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes, thinly sliced (optional)
- 1/2 cup heavy/whipping cream (or sour cream, or 4 ounces cream cheese)
- 1/4 cup parmigiano reggiano (parmesan cheese), grated
- salt & pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (or basil), chopped (optional)
directions
- Cook the beef and onion in a large pan over medium-high heat, breaking the beef apart as it cooks, until the beef is cooked through and the onion is tender, about 7-10 minutes.
- Add the garlic, red pepper flakes, and fennel and cook until fragrant, about a minute.
- Add the tomatoes, broth, gnocchi, Italian seasoning, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and sun-dried tomatoes, bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer until the gnocchi is tender, about 8-10 minutes, mixing every few minutes.
- Add the cream and cheese, let the cheese melt into the sauce.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste, mix in the parsley and enjoy!
Option: Add 2 tablespoons tomato paste, along with the garlic.
Option: Add 1/2 cup roasted red peppers, diced, along with the sun-dried tomatoes.
Option: Add 4 ounces fresh baby spinach at the end and let it wilt in the sauce!
Option: Add 2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar, along with the soy sauce.
