Normally when I make a Chinese style beef and broccoli dish I use thinly sliced beef but ground beef also works well and it’s a little quicker to make! This is a super simple recipe! You pretty much just mix all of the sauce ingredients, cook the beef, add the sauce and broccoli and cook until the broccoli is tender. All said and done, this dish takes about 20 minutes to make, just enough time to steam some rice or cook some noodles to serve with! You can change the veggies up, I also like to make this with peppers, snow peas, etc.
Ground Beef and Broccoli
A quick and easy beef and broccoli using ground beef.
ingredients
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce (gluten-free or tamari for gluten-free)
- 2 tablespoon hoisin sauce (gluten-free for gluten-free)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar (or honey, or maple syrup)
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced/grated
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced/grated
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water (or beef broth (link))
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound broccoli, cut into florets
- 4 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds

- Mix everything well.
- Cook the beef in a wok (or large pan) over medium-high heat, breaking it apart as it cooks, about 5-10 minutes, before draining off any excess grease.
- Add the sauce and broccoli, mix, and simmer until the sauce thickens and the broccoli is tender, about 3-5 minutes.
- Mix in the green onions, sesame oil, and sesame seeds and enjoy!

Option: Add 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes to the sauce mixture.
Option: Add 1 tablespoon oyster sauce to the sauce mixture.
Option: Replace the broccoli with your favourite vegetable!
