Sloppy Joes are a favourite and this is a fun version based on the flavours of Mississippi pot roast. The pot roast is a simple one where you roast a piece of beef along with pepperoncini peppers and pickling juices, gravy and ranch seasoning; it’s super easy in the slow cooker and just packed with flavour! These sloppy joes include ground beef, onions, pepperoncini peppers and pickling juices, ranch seasoning and a gravy with aspects from sloppy joes such as ketchup, brown sugar, worcestershire sauce and soy sauce. The recipe comes together in less than 30 minutes making it a perfect meal any time, including busy weeknights!

Mississippi Sloppy Joes
Sloppy joes with all of the flavours of Mississippi pot roast!
ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (or turkey)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 tablespoons butter *
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (gluten-free for gluten-free)
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup pepperoncini peppers, sliced
- 2 tablespoons pepperoncini pickling juice (optional)
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce (gluten-free or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce (gluten-free for gluten-free)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon ranch seasoning **
- salt and pepper to taste
- 4 buns (gluten-free for gluten-free)
directions
- Cook the ground beef and onion in a large pan, breaking apart the beef as it cooks, until cooked, about 10 minutes.
- Add the butter and garlic, mix and cook until the butter melts, about a minute.
- Sprinkle in the flour, mix well and let it cook for a minute.
- Add the broth, pepperoncini peppers, pickling juice, soy sauce, 4. worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, ketchup, ranch seasoning, bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer until the sauce thickens, about 3 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Assemble the sandwiches and enjoy!
Note: ** Make your own ranch seasoning with: 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley, 1/2 teaspoon dried chives, 1/2 teaspoon dried dill, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, and 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
