A rosé sauce (aka pink sauce) is the combination of a tomato sauce and a cream sauce with the half red and half white giving it a pink colour! This recipe is essentially the offspring of a marinara sauce and an alfredo sauce! The tomato sauce includes tomatoes, olive oil, onions, garlic, oregano and basil. The alfredo sauce comes from the butter, cream and parmesan. I like to puree the tomatoes and onions to have a smooth and creamy texture but you could also leave the tomatoes in chunks. This time I used a heart shaped pasta for a Valentine’s Day themed version but you can use any pasta shape!

Rose Pasta Sauce (aka Pink Sauce)
A quick and easy Italian pink sauce pasta which is a combination of a tomato sauce with a cream sauce!
ingredients
- 8 ounces pasta (gluten-free for gluten-free)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoon butter
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes
- 28 ounce can whole peeled tomatoes, crushed by hand
- 1 teaspoon oregano (or Italian seasoning (link))
- 1 cup heavy/whipping cream
- 1/2 cup parmigiano reggiano (parmesan cheese), grated
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons basil, thinly sliced
directions
- Start cooking the pasta as directed on the package.
- Meanwhile, heat the oil and melt the butter in a large pan over medium heat, add the onion and cook until tender, about 5-8 minutes.
- Add the garlic and red pepper flakes and cook until fragrant, about a minute.
- Add tomatoes and oregano, bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes before pureeing the sauce in a blender and returning it to the pan.
- Add the cream and cheese, mix and let the cheese melt into the sauce.
- Drain the cooked pasta and add it to the sauce before seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
- Mix in the basil and enjoy!
